Mission: Keep his eyes on the skies…despite one sexy distraction!

What Makes a Hero "Uniformly Hot!"
by Karen Rock

Sure. Six pack abs and a gorgeous face go a long way in making a hero hot... but Uniformly Hot takes it to another level! The jaw-dropping heroes in the Uniformly Hot series are not just eye candy, but real life heroes who put their lives on the line every day. They take extreme risks for to rescue others without regard for their own safety. They are also very protective and will defend those they love with a relentlessness that can make a gal go weak in the knees.

Uniformly Hot heroes are strong, brave, intelligent men whose extreme discipline makes them even more of a challenge for a sexy heroine determined to make him lose his control. His tough outer shell covers a tender side he'll let few see. Breaking through his walls makes coming out on the other side all the more worth it.

What's more, Uniformly Hot heroes are adrenalin junkies. Their lives are heart-pounding, pulse-slamming adventures, in and out of bed. They know how to give a woman ultimate satisfaction and won't stop until they've accomplished their mission of giving her the most intense pleasure of her life... ladies first. Their intense ability to focus is all the more gratifying when that sexy concentration is focused all on you. These are men action and few words, so when they speak, their confessions, ripped right from their heart, are all the more meaningful and make readers swoon!

Subject: Lt. Commander Mark Sampson
Mission: Keep his eyes on the skies…despite one sexy distraction!

There are things a man can never undo. For Coast Guard search and rescue pilot Mark Sampson, it was the agonizing decision that cost him a teammate—and his faith in himself. But an unbelievably sexy blonde on a secluded beach may help him forget…if only for a night.

Cassie Rowe needed a distraction—and, boy, did she get one! How was she to know the brooding stranger who rocked her world was the pilot who'd left her brother to die? And now they're on the same mission. She should hate him. But she can't fight the storm of desire threatening to pull them under…

Suddenly, warm water rushed across Cassie’s feet and over her ankles. She gasped and stepped closer to shore then stopped when Mark’s arm came around her. He turned her toward him. Her hands landed on his lean waist, her fingers grazing his contracting stomach muscles beneath the crisp cotton of his T-shirt.
“I didn’t think the water came up this far.”
“The tide’s rising.” His voice was thick, distracted, as heat flared in his eyes.
“Oh,” she mumbled, her mouth dry, her body warm.
He reached out and stroked her hair, his gaze full of promise and something more. “Are you sure you want to keep going?”
She understood what he was asking her. Appreciated that he’d given her some time to think. To be certain about the attraction and where it was headed.
But even with the fresh air to clear her thoughts, she still wanted him. Still craved the chance to feel all that warm male strength around her before she embarked on the most dangerous adventure of her life.
“Absolutely.” She slid her hand up his abdomen, teasing the hard ridges that moved and shifted beneath her touch. His chest rose sharply when her fingers rested on his pecs. Exhilaration forked through her.
“Cassie,” he groaned, stepping closer so that her feet brushed his in the shifting sand.
She rose on her toes and cupped her hands around the base of his neck, pulling his mouth to hers.
Bodies fusing at the same moment as their lips, nerve endings fired faster than the incoming tide. Hip to hip, breast to chest, her body curved into his, molding around all that hard, hot muscle. Pleasure tingled along her nerve endings, making her wriggle closer and sigh into his kiss.
She felt a low groan vibrate through his chest, but she didn’t hear it, the rush of waves drowning out everything else. Her breath caught at the back of her throat, her senses heightened. Every facet of the kiss imprinted itself on her consciousness, burrowing into her memory as if it would never leave.
He placed his hands on either side of her temples and kissed her gently, easing back ever so slightly. He traced her lips slowly with his tongue, then sucked on her lower lip in a way that made tension coil between her thighs. She wanted him. Wanted this.

I LOVED that the story dealt with the Coast Guard.  I have a soft place in my heart for them as they rescued my Dad when he was a teen and without them, there would be no me. ;)  I also adore the movie The Guardian with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher where Kevers is a very experienced rescue swimmer and Kutcher has a lot to learn.  I cry every time I watch it and it looks like parts of His to Protect will be no different.  It is well written and touches upon some difficult issues so get out the tissues before you even start.

Karen really did her research.  Everything about the story rang true from the medical jargon to the military procedures. The humor and the heartbreak were spot on as well, making for a beautiful background for this incredibly well-written romance.  Cassie and Mark, our two main characters, both entered the story full of grief.  Throughout the story we get to watch how they separately try to work through that grief and misplaced blame and see if they can achieve some healing.  It is heart wrenching at times as well as beautiful to see when progress is being made.  Their romance throughout this time was carefully woven and at times oh-so-hot.

I thought that this just goes to show how easy it is to misplace blame and guilt when we are so badly wounded that we think we will never heal.  Been there, am doing that. It’s a process to be sure. Karen handled it well though. I was satisfied with the ending and I’m pretty sure you will be as well.

When she’s not writing, Karen is an avid reader who’s typically immersed in three different books at a time, all in different genres. She also loves cooking her grandmother’s Italian recipes, baking, Christmas (no need to specify—she loves every bit of it), and having the Adirondack Park wilderness as her backyard, where she lives with her husband, daughter, dog and cat who keep her life interesting and complete..

  1. Wow! Thank you so much, Liberty! Your review made me smile through tears. These brave heroes definitely inspired me because- like you said- they have to be so tough and controlled on the outside to get their life and death missions completed , but inside, they hurt and cry and laugh and love, too. Mark is my favorite hero, but now I'm also in love with rescue swimmer Dylan who's the hero in the second book of the series, out in April, HIS LAST DEFENSE :) I'm glad your dad got rescued, too :-)

    1. Karen - Thank you so much for stopping by! That and your comments made my day. Looking forward to HIS LAST DEFENSE next April!
